Dear Teachers,

The first TAHOE Faces Year 2 event is now “history” and we would like to thank you again for contributing to its success.  We hope that you enjoyed visiting Fort Donelson, learning more about parks as classrooms resources, and visiting the Fort Heiman site.  For those of you who brought your cameras, if you would like to send any photographs I can post them on the TAHOE Blog.

Dr. Robert Lyons will send you a link for the evaluation survey.  Please remember to complete this questionnaire as it is important for us to collect feedback data in order to measure the success of the activity in meeting your interests and needs.

I would also like to remind you that our next event is a two day technology and instructional strategies workshop scheduled for November 13th and 14th.   This activity will be held on the campus of Murray State University in Alexander Hall.  You will recieve more information about this event in the coming weeks.

As always, if you have any questions or comments, I encourage you to contact me or any member of the TAHOE staff!

Thank you!

Bonus points to whoever can identify these three men!  Come to the October 21st workshop with the answers!

Dear Educators,

Attached, please find PIE team meeting notes from yesterday’s assembly at Miss Scarlett’s in Grand Rivers, KY.  Attendance was very good and there were a lot of excellent suggestions and ideas discussed for Year 2 events.  I will be contacting everyone in the future about many of the things that are outlined here.  If you have questions about anything that you see, please let me know.

I am also pleased to announce that the votes are in for the 2009 summer trip.  Out of twenty-six individuals who responded, twenty-two voted to go west!!!  Many of you provided suggestions and recommendations in your emails, and several teacher representatives provided some excellent ideas as well.  I have began contacting travel agents and checking on prices.  In all likelihood, we will carpool to Nashville, TN, and fly to our destination before taking a chartered bus on the tour.  As we continue the initial stages of planning, I welcome and encourage you to keep sending me any thoughts, questions, or recommendations.

As we told you at the orientation, we are excited about our schedule for this year and the many opportunities that Project TAHOE Faces will provide to each of you!  We look forward to working with you and encourage you to contact us at any time!

notes

Good Thursday morning!  I hope that your week is starting to wrap up better than it might have begun.  The weather is gorgeous now, at least!

I would like to remind everyone that the PIE team will meet next Tuesday to discuss Faces Year 2 grant activities and have brainstorm session on the 2009 summer trip.  We are still waiting for several of you to send us your preferences and ideas.  If you have not contacted us about this, we would love to hear from you! I also encourage you to contact your PIE team district representative about ideas for the trip or any other item of business to discuss regarding the second year of the grant.

If you are wondering which trip to prepare for, let’s just say that all indications are that we will follow the advice of Horace Greeley.  This will not be absolutely final, however, until next week. Please continue to contact me with your suggestions!

Why does everyone look so solemn?

Dear TAHOE Faces teachers,

Good morning! As you know, many of our districts were out of school on Monday due to damage and power outages from Sunday’s severe winds. There are still several trees and power lines down across the region. We hope that everyone is okay!

On a much brighter note, I am happy to report that many of you have already sent in your preferences for the 2009 summer trip. Of the twenty people who have contacted me so far, eighteen are in favor of traveling west! There is still time to send in your choice, along with suggestions, recommendations, and other comments concerning our destinations and itinerary. I also encourage you to contact your PIE team district representative with anything that you feel will be important to include at the upcoming PIE team meeting. It is still a week away, and we want to hear from you concerning the trip as well as any other aspect of TAHOE Faces Year 2.

Also, I would also like to hear from anyone who is interested in participating in Kentucky’s National History Day. As we explained in our meeting, the district competition will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at the Curris Center in Murray, Kentucky. Several individuals have expressed interest in this program, and we would like to collect your names for an official list. If you are an elementary school teacher who would be interested in participating in our own district competition, please contact me. You may also contact Kate Hesseldenz, state coordinator, directly at Kate.Hesseldenz@ky.gov with any questions.

Please remember that our next event is the Fort Donelson Workshop scheduled for October 21. We will send you an agenda and more information in the coming weeks. We look forward to seeing you then!
